Milan Report 2011: Omer Arbel

A range of copper bowls designed by Omer Arbel for Bocci celebrate sandcasting, transforming something that is typically considered an unsightly consequence of the manufacturing process into a design feature. “Sandcasting is a cheap way of manipulating metal very imprecisely and a by-product of the procedure is ‘overspill’,” says Arbel. “In conventional circumstances, it is trimmed off and discarded but in our case, we decided to build a design project around it.” The complete production process behind each of the ‘Series 19’ bowls is revealed in this beautiful video produced by Bocci.

  1. I love the copper bowls! Do you know if they are for sale? And if so where?
    Thank you
