School holiday workshops: Kid’s Week at Ganim’s Store

Master craftsperson and designer retailer Rae Ganim is inviting people, young and old, to get creative in her Fitzroy store with Kid’s Week. Comprising a series of workshops for children and a quirky exhibition of forty different interpretations of Mr Potato Head, it’s all happening at Ganim’s Store in Fitzroy, Melbourne.


Over the next week (25 September – 1 October), four Melbourne artists will hold hour-long workshops for children that encourage them to learn and foster their creativity while having a fun!

1. Lucy Folk: Pasta Making workshop
Tuesday 25 September, 10:30am – 11:30am

Melbourne jeweller Lucy Folk spent her childhood hanging out in her father’s cafe where she made pasta necklaces and hung cherries off her ears. She now spends her days transforming food into precious things we love to wear like this necklace, below.

2. Samuel Barnes: Bruno Munari Masks workshop
Thursday 27 September, 10:30am – 11:30am

Introduce your child to the magical world of Italian designer Bruno Munari with a mask making workshop run by Munari enthusiast Samuel Barnes. Samuel is a freelance designer who prefers reading books and teaching workshops to making business cards and wants to be like Munari when he grows up.

3. Harvest Textiles: Potato Print Making workshop
Friday 28 September, 10.30am – 11.30am

The four ladies from Harvest Textiles share a passion for quality, handmade textiles, the joy of learning, community and sustainability. Together they run screen printing workshops, create their own line of products and curate artist exhibitions and happenings at their East Brunswick Studio.

4. Micheal Strownix: Potato Sculpture workshop
Monday 1 October, 10:30am – 11:30am

Get a lesson in sculpture from renowned interiors stylist and artist Micheal Strownix.

Ganim’s Store
asked some of its most creative friends to  get in touch with their inner child and make their own personal version of the iconic Mr Potato Head toy.

Swing down for a chip and a peek at some arty potatoes when the exhibition opens on Tuesday 25 September, 6:30pm to 8:00pm. The Mr Potato Head show continues until 7 October.
