Milan Design Week: Day Five

After an intense week, Salone del Mobile 2013 is drawing to a close, and the designers and architects who travelled to Milan from all over the world are packing their bags and heading home.

Last year, nearly 330,000 people either exhibited or attended the most important furniture fair in the design calendar, and this year has been no different. The Vogue Living team spent the day at the Fiera. Here are a few highlights.

VITRA

The Vitra stand – complete with a toy train carting a collection of miniature versions of the company’s chairs – was one of the best of the day.

The Swiss company presented classic pieces from Charles and Ray Eames, Jean Prouvé and George Nelson in new colours developed by Dutch designer Hella Jongerius for the new Vitra Colour Library.

Ray Eames would have celebrated her 100th birthday last December, so to celebrate the landmark anniversary of the iconic designer, Vitra and the Eames Office have launched three new colour combinations for the 1953 ‘Hang it All’ coat rack. Our favourite was this one in reds and pinks, but the gorgeous green ran a close second.

Dream Chair

Architect Tadao Ando says he was always strongly influenced by Danish design culture,
so it’s fitting that he has created the ‘Dream’ chair for Carl Hansen & Son.

It’s always a delight to see the Hansen stable of furniture — pictured here is the ‘Folding’ chair designed by Mogens Koch in 1932.
