Contemporary Classic: Melbourne’s Sarti Restaurant

With a recently updated decor and newly installed head chef, Sarti, which opened with a classically white-tableclothed decor in 2006, is modern Australian meets traditional Calabrian – and Melbourne all over.

Channelling 1950s New York with a glorious two-metre long red neon sign at its entrance, there’s no missing the new Sarti. Having enjoyed a major new fit-out and new head chef (Italian, of course) Paolo Mascipinto of Sosta Cucina and Stokehouse, the restaurant’s new menu boasts pan-seared quail with crispy polenta, kingfish with grapefruit and green chilli, and twists on classic Italianate fare like the duck roll pasta with field mushrooms and parmesan. Thankfully, its wonderfully large outdoor dining area remains.
